Today's gold price in Kenya, by karat and weight
The table above shows the shilling price of gold per gram and per ten grams, in four karats, at two dollar rates. No Kenyan body fixes these prices. Every figure is the world gold price multiplied by a shilling rate, and the lower karats are the 24 karat gram multiplied by the karat over twenty-four. The karat stamp promises a purity, not a price.

What the columns mean
The table has rows for 24, 22, 18 and 14 karat, and columns for one gram and ten grams. Each karat row appears twice: once at the Central Bank of Kenya dollar, and once at the open-market dollar. The CBK rate is the official interbank rate; the open-market rate is the median of credible Binance P2P USDT advertisements in shillings, settled through M-Pesa or bank transfer.
The price shown is the metal value only. It is the world gold price in US dollars per troy ounce, multiplied by the shilling rate, then converted to a gram and multiplied by the karat fraction. It is not a price at which a Kenyan dealer has agreed to buy or sell. A jeweller will quote a different number because making charges and buy-back deductions are added on top.
No Kenyan body fixes these prices
Kenya has no association, refiner, jeweller or exchange that publishes a daily shilling gold rate. The pages that print a Kenyan price have all made the same multiplication: world gold price times a shilling rate. This site says so first, and shows the arithmetic in the table. The price is derived, not fixed.
That means the figure is a benchmark, not an offer. A buyer should not expect to walk into a shop and pay the table price. The table is the metal value before the jeweller's costs. The gap between the table and the till is the making charge and the buy-back deduction, and that gap is set by the shop, not by the market.
How the lower karats are calculated
The 24 karat price is the world gold price per gram in shillings. The 22 karat price is that figure multiplied by twenty-two over twenty-four. The 18 karat price is multiplied by eighteen over twenty-four, and the 14 karat price by fourteen over twenty-four. These are arithmetic steps, not independent market observations.
A 22 karat piece is therefore not a different market; it is the same market, scaled down by the purity. The karat stamp promises that purity, and a buyer should ask the jeweller to test it in front of them. The stamp does not promise a price, and a piece can carry a stamp and still be under-karat if the jeweller is dishonest.
What the karat stamp promises
The karat stamp is a promise about the metal, not about the price. It says the piece is a certain fraction of pure gold: 24 karat is pure, 22 karat is twenty-two parts gold out of twenty-four, and so on. The stamp is not a government guarantee, and it is not checked by any authority before the piece is sold.
A buyer should ask the jeweller to test the piece in front of them, and to write the karat on the receipt. The stamp is the starting point for the metal value, but the price paid is the metal value plus the making charge. That charge is the jeweller's labour and profit, and it is the largest part of the gap between the table and the till.
One gram and ten grams
The table shows one gram and ten grams because those are the weights a small buyer in Kenya is most likely to ask about. The ten-gram figure is the one-gram figure multiplied by ten. The kilogram figure, if shown, is the gram figure multiplied by one thousand. There is no bulk discount in the metal value itself.
A jeweller may offer a different rate for a larger piece, but that difference is in the making charge, not in the metal. The metal value is linear: twice the weight, twice the metal value. The making charge is not linear, and that is why a heavy piece can have a lower percentage cost than a light one.
The real gap is the jeweller's charge
The table price is not what a buyer pays, and it is not what a seller receives. The buyer pays the metal value plus the making charge, and sometimes a wastage fee. The seller receives the metal value minus the buy-back deduction. Those charges are set by the shop, and they vary from one street to the next.
A buyer should ask the jeweller to write down the per-gram rate, the making charge, and the buy-back terms before paying. That written quote is the only way to compare the table price with the till price. The table is the metal value, and the difference is the cost of the piece.

Questions about the gold price
Is there an official gold price in Kenya?
No. Kenya has no daily gold fixing from any exchange, refiner, jeweller or association. The prices on this page are derived from the world gold price multiplied by a shilling rate, and are labelled as such. No Kenyan body publishes a daily shilling gold rate.
Why are there two prices for each karat?
The table shows the price at the Central Bank of Kenya dollar and at the open-market dollar. The CBK rate is the official interbank rate; the open-market rate is the median of credible Binance P2P USDT advertisements in shillings, settled through M-Pesa or bank transfer. In Kenya the two rates are within a fraction of a per cent of each other.
What is the difference between 24 karat and 22 karat?
24 karat is pure gold. 22 karat is twenty-two parts gold out of twenty-four, so the price is the 24 karat price multiplied by twenty-two over twenty-four. The same arithmetic applies to 18 and 14 karat. The karat stamp promises that purity.
Can I buy gold at the table price?
No. The table price is the metal value only. A jeweller adds a making charge for labour, and may add a wastage fee. When you sell back, the jeweller deducts a buy-back margin. The table is a benchmark, not an offer.
How often is the price updated?
The world gold price moves throughout the trading day, and the shilling rates move too. This site takes one reading per day and keeps a history. The table is not a live ticker, and it does not promise an hourly price.
